Bentley’s CEO Adrian Hallmark has announced that their first electric car, set to be released in 2026, will come equipped with hands-free driving capability.
The upcoming EV, scheduled for unveiling in 2025, will be constructed using the new PPE architecture developed in collaboration with Audi and Porsche.
It will also utilize Volkswagen’s software 1.2, which enables autonomous driving functionality.
To achieve this level of autonomy, Bentley plans to incorporate Mobileye’s SuperVision technology into their vehicle design.
This technology utilizes a combination of 11 cameras, Mobileye’s EyeQ5 chip, and high-definition maps generated through community input to facilitate level two-plus autonomy where drivers can have their hands off the steering wheel while still keeping their eyes on the road
Bentley’s electric vehicle will initially feature semi-autonomous driving capabilities on motorways and automated parking.
Full autonomous capability will be introduced at a later stage, as confirmed by Hallmark.
Mobileye has developed SuperVision technology which enables level-three autonomy on motorways, allowing for hands-free and eyes-off driving.
The delay of the Bentley EV, as well as the Porsche e-Macan and Audi Q6 E-tron models sharing the same platform, can be attributed to the slow development of the 1.2 software within Volkswagen Group.
