Overview of this Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Interior Soft Trims Engineer to join their team in Auburn Hills, MI. This position will play a key role in the design, development, and execution of interior soft trim systems, including headliners, NVH components, and carpets. You will support new product development, work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders, and lead initiatives that optimise cost, quality, and performance across vehicle programmes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support new programs through design input, tooling advice, and risk analysis
- Provide engineering leadership across the full product lifecycle.
- Deliver solutions to cost reduction and quality improvement challenges.
- Lead and support feasibility checks regarding materials, design, and manufacturing.
- Maintain and release Bills of Materials (BOM) and finalise designs using Team Center.
- Create and present technical reports detailing project progress and results.
- Drive continuous improvements in performance, mass, cost, and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on requirements, DVPRs, DFMEAs, and specs.
- Participate in engineering design optimisation through benchmarking and innovation.
- Utilise structured problem-solving methods (e.g., DOE, Six Sigma)
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years experience in interior design engineering, preferably within automotive.
- Strong knowledge of soft trim systems, including NVH and carpet materials.
- High proficiency in CATIA V5 and understanding of GD&T standards.
- Experience with Team Center, DFMEA, and project management tools.
- Understanding of mold design and compression molding processes.
- Hands-on experience in launching automotive products.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME preferred).
- Ability to work 40–50 hours/week; domestic and international travel may be required.
