Mercedes-Benz USA signs 'green steel' agreement for Europe and North America
H2 Green Steel, a Swedish start-up, has entered into an agreement with Mercedes-Benz to supply 50,000 tons of steel that emits low levels of carbon dioxide.
This will be utilized by the automaker’s production facilities situated in Europe and North America.
In 2021, Mercedes acquired a share in H2 Green Steel and has now extended their collaborative efforts to create an almost carbon emission-free steel supply chain in North America.
The partnership intends to commence production of automobiles with this green steel by the year 2025.
After investing in H2 Green Steel, Mercedes-Benz Cars has secured a supply agreement for Europe and is currently exploring options to establish an eco-friendly source of steel production in North America, according to Gunnar Guethenke, the company’s head of procurement and supplier quality.
