Uber teams up with Waymo to add robotaxis to its app
Later this year, in Phoenix, passengers and customers can access Waymo’s autonomous taxis for rides or food delivery through Uber’s app as a result of their recent collaboration. The partnership merges the extensive ride-sharing and delivery networks of Uber with Waymo’s superior self-driving capabilities. Due to the pandemic, robotaxi companies have faced difficulties; some such businesses have closed permanently while others have had to lay off employees.
Running a robtaxi service is challenging due to the geographical constraints imposed on self-driving vehicles. In contrast, ride-hailing companies reliant on human drivers such as Uber and Lyft are not constrained by similar limitations. Additionally, consumers have a tendency of being unpredictable; quick to switch to another service that promises shorter wait times and fewer limits on where they can travel.
